Training

We have a fabulous and talented coach, Ben Matthews. He offers training advice and tailored sessions to aid us in achieving our goals and aspirations. We’re also very fortunate to have world-class training facilities surrounded by beautiful (hilly!) countryside, offering us a range of training options and opportunities.  The club offers an inclusive atmosphere and we welcome all abilities to join us.

Weekly Training Timetable:

Monday: Coached Swim 6.30-7.30pm. Meet poolside. 2 swim lanes to cater for all abilities. Coach Ben leads the session, offers tips for swim technique and encouragement along the way!

Wednesday: Coached Swim 8-9pm. Meet poolside. 2 swim lanes to cater for all abilities. Coach Ben leads the session, offers tips for swim technique and encouragement along the way!

Thursday: Coached Rub 7-8pm. Meet at the entrance of the STV. Run session with Coach Ben for all abilities. Set in the university campus. Ben plans a variety of targeted sessions to improve fitness and run times.

Saturday: Coached Swim 9-10am. Meet poolside. 2 swim lanes to cater for all abilities. Coach Ben leads the session. During the summer months an informal interclub “Do a Duo” will be held on the first Saturday of every month (400m swim/4k run) with an end of season club prize for the most improved.

In addition to the formal timetable above, Amphibs meet to take part in various sessions e.g. Open water swim events at Vobster Quay http://www.vobster.com/swimming.php (May – September). Bike handling sessions at Odd Down Cycle Circuit and longer or event specific bike rides and runs. We also take part in local triathlons, bike and run events as a team and details of these are posted on the Amphibs Facebook page and the email group. A Facebook post and weekly email is issued to all members with specific details of each weekly training session and what to expect/bring along.
